Use this dog breeding contract template to breed your dog. It’s a legal document that protects rights and responsibilities, helping prevent disputes.

This Dog Breeding Agreement, dated as of (Enter date) (hereafter "Commencement Date"), is between [Buyer.FirstName] [Buyer.LastName] (hereafter "Buyer") and [Breeder.FirstName] [Breeder.LastName] (hereafter "Breeder") hereby agree to the following terms concerning the breeding of the two dogs listed below:

Purchase Price

The Buyer agrees to pay the Breeder a $(Enter amount) fee for breeding services. A non-refundable deposit of $(Enter amount) is paid at breeding. The remaining amount is paid after the puppies are born. Payments must be in US dollars through bank wire, check, or money order.

Payment Terms

The Buyer can choose (Enter number) puppy(ies) as the (Enter ordinal number, e.g., third) pick after the Breeder. The Buyer makes this choice within (Enter number) weeks of the puppies' birth.

guarantees (Enter number) live puppies from the Breeding, and if (Enter number) live puppies do not result from the Breeding, the Buyer agrees to provide (one) repeat breeding to the same Breeder (or other owned dogs and selected by the Breeder and acceptable to the Buyer) to the same dog (or another dog owned and selected by the Buyer and acceptable to the Breeder) on the female dog's next heat cycle.

Breeding

This breeding will be:

Fresh semen via artificial insemination (aka side-by-side artificial insemination (AI))

With fresh, chilled semen via

transcervical insemination (TI)

With frozen semen via

transcervical insemination or

The parties agree that a licensed veterinarian or Breeder must perform any AI or TI.

Breeding Expenses

The Breeder agrees to pay all expenses incurred for the Breeding at the time in which they are incurred, including, but not limited to, transportation. All costs, semen collection, and shipping of the same, as applicable, provided that the Buyer shall pay for collection/AI in the case of natural breeding where the male dog cannot breed the female dog.

Health Guarantee

Ear cropping and tail docking aren’t currently banned in the US. However, many states have specific procedures that need to be followed. As such, make sure to check your local regulations.

The Breeder agrees to accept full responsibility to ensure that all offspring resulting from the Breeding are treated for parasites and receive vaccines and ear cropping or tail docking when indicated.

It’s essential to include the obligations of both parties. Include terms specifying the proper care of the dog as well as health during the mating process.

Breeder Obligations

The Breeder represents, warrants, and agrees as follows:

The dog is healthy, well-tempered, and ready for breeding. The dog will be groomed and bathed before breeding. It hasn't been exposed to any other dog recently.

The Breeder will provide a (Enter number) generation pedigree of the dog, a negative Brucellosis test within (Enter number) breeding days, health records, vaccination details, and health clearances.

The Breeder can refuse to breed or return the dog if it's not in good condition upon arrival. The Buyer will cover all return costs.

The Breeder must inform the Buyer about the birth and number of puppies within a week of breeding.

The female dog will be confined after breeding to prevent accidental breeding. If accidental breeding occurs, the Breeder must notify the Buyer within (Enter number) hours and DNA profile each puppy to establish parentage.

If the female dog is with the Buyer, they can authorize emergency vet services. The Breeder will pay all vet costs.

The Buyer isn't responsible for diseases or injuries to the female dog unrelated to breeding, as long as they've taken reasonable care and not been grossly negligent.

Buyer Obligations

The Buyer represents, warrants, and agrees as follows:

The Buyer confirms the male dog is healthy, has a good temperament, is ready for breeding, and is free from parasites and diseases. He will be groomed and bathed before breeding.

The Buyer will provide the Breeder with a (Enter number) generation pedigree of the male dog. This includes a negative Brucellosis test within (Enter number) breeding days, health status, vaccination records, and health clearances.

The Buyer will take care of the female dog but is not liable for any injuries, illnesses, or loss during her stay.

The Buyer will sign and return the litter registration once full payment is received. The Breeder is not responsible for any diseases or injuries to the male dog unrelated to breeding.

Placement of Puppies

The Breeder must not transfer any puppy from the breeding to anyone planning to resell, trade, or use them for experiments, including pet shops and research labs.

The Buyer will help place puppies if asked. If requested, they will evaluate the puppies between (Enter age) and (Enter age) weeks and give their opinion to the Breeder.
